Through my internship with the Louisiana Department of Health, I contributed to maternal and community health initiatives focused on improving health outcomes for women and families. I supported projects related to maternal health programming, community outreach, and health education, gaining insight into the role of public health systems, policy, and collaboration in addressing healthcare disparities.
Labor & Love Intern
As a Maternal Health Intern with Labor & Love, I supported initiatives focused on reducing Black maternal mortality and improving maternal health outcomes. Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the systemic barriers that contribute to disparities in pregnancy and childbirth while contributing to efforts centered around advocacy, education, and community empowerment.
Black Public Health Influencer (BPHI) Fellow
As a Black Public Health Influencer Fellow, I developed and supported public health communication efforts focused on raising awareness about Black maternal health disparities. Through advocacy and digital outreach, I worked to educate communities, amplify important health conversations, and promote the importance of equitable, patient-centered care for Black mothers.

Clinical
Nursing Assistant — Labor & Delivery
As a Nursing Assistant on a Labor & Delivery unit, I gained firsthand exposure to maternal and newborn care while supporting patients and healthcare teams during one of the most significant moments in a family's life. This experience deepened my appreciation for the importance of compassionate care, clear communication, and patient advocacy throughout pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
Medical Assistant — Obstetrics & Gynecology
Working as a Medical Assistant in an OB/GYN clinic allowed me to provide direct patient support and develop a deeper understanding of women's health. I assisted with patient intake, vital signs, medication administration, exam preparation, and clinical procedures while learning the importance of building trust and creating a welcoming healthcare environment.
Patient Care Sitter
As a Patient Care Sitter, I provided compassionate support and maintained patient safety while assisting healthcare teams in delivering quality care. This role strengthened my ability to communicate effectively with patients, recognize individual needs, and provide reassurance during vulnerable moments.
Research
Research Fellow - University of California, San Diego
As a research fellow, I gained laboratory experience through a mosquito research project involving specimen analysis, microscopy, and PCR techniques. This opportunity strengthened my scientific foundation and appreciation for research as a tool to advance healthcare.
